Willard Sparks Beef Research Center
Our Facility
The OSU Willard Sparks Beef Research Center is the finest beef research and educational facility in the country, and it is a great benefit in fostering our research, teaching and Extension programs to better serve the beef industry.
The facility is located at 4224 West McElroy, Stillwater, Oklahoma 74074.
Our Purpose
Research is conducted with cooperative efforts with the Center of Veterinary Medicine to provide excellent hands-on training, work and clinical experience for many OSU students. One of the first research trials was partially funded by a grant from the Oklahoma Beef Industry Council to study genetic markers associated with marbling in beef cattle.
About Us
Our Land
The center is located west of campus. The center is a development through an investment of more than $2.3 million dollars, dedicated in 1998.
Our Herd
Herd size varies throughout the year, but our facility can hold up to 980 head of beef cattle.
Research
Our research feedlot allows us to perform important, industry relevant experiments. The center has multiple pens and Insentec feeders and waterers, which are used to conduct research on different types of feed, sustainability, wellness and drought management.
