Our Mission

To support innovative research and demonstrations to enhance the sustainability of plant, animal and natural resource systems. Our unit maintains research facilities and services across Oklahoma that facilitate the development and dissemination of agricultural and natural resources knowledge under locally relevant conditions for the direct benefit of Oklahomans.

History

The Field and Research Service Unit was created by OSU Ag Research in 2005 to support innovative research conducted by academic departments and institutes within OSU Agriculture. The formation of the unit supported increased collaborative and multi-disciplinary research and the development of educational research programs.
FRSU provides core infrastructure to OSU Ag Research faculty to conduct research and demonstrations funded by grants, contracts and endowments. The unit also provides opportunities for academic training associated with undergraduate and graduate students and Extension outreach activities.

About

The Field and Research Service Unit operates research stations that represent the diverse geographic areas across Oklahoma and multi-departmental research facilities on the Oklahoma State University campus. FRSU provides a central focus on budget management, facility upgrades, consolidation of labor pools, maintenance and repair of equipment and buildings, as well as other infrastructure needs. The unit also provides onsite research support services and management for campus-based faculty.
FRSU manages 19 stations and nine specialty facilities that encompass 14,500 acres across Oklahoma. These stations and specialty facilities are organized into 14 management groups. Research areas supported include cattle, goats, improved forages, forestry, horticulture, rang management, natural resource management, sustainable energy/biofuels, wheat, corn, sorghum, soybeans, peanuts, alfalfa, pecans, grapes, hops, fruit trees, vegetables, wildlife, turf, irrigation and agricultural technology development.

This group also provides fee-based support for the Greenhouse Learning Center, some departmentally operated greenhouses and growth chambers and conducts some basic lab equipment maintenance.

Field Days

The unit operates the OSU Agriculture Field Day events, which share research-based information and resources with Oklahoma producers, industry representatives, government officials and other state residents. Field days showcase current agricultural research and relevant best practices through presentations, tours, hands-on workshops and discussion.
