Dr. Hasan Atiyeh, Professor of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering (BAE) at Oklahoma State University (OSU), Stillwater, OK, received a one-year grant of $53,400 through the South Central Sun Grant Center’s Competitive Research Support Program to conduct a study on “Enhancing butanol production: Novel Clostridium platform for co-fermentation of non-detoxified switchgrass hydrolysate and CO₂.” Atiyeh’s award will be used to provide assistantship and research support for his current BAE graduate student, Manoj Gyawali.

 

The project aims to enhance butanol yield and reduce carbon emissions by developing a co-fermentation system for non-detoxified switchgrass hydrolysate and gases using improved lignocellulosic biomass-derived microbial inhibitory compounds-tolerant Clostridium strains.
